Improbable and Extraordinary

Accolades for Improbable and Extraordinary

“This will be an extremely influential book – it’s rare to see such a personal and raw account of mental illness, and then the continuous (and in this case, unique) process of overcoming it.  Overall, an outstanding and moving manuscript…The flow is excellent and engaging and the voice is very strong.  A true accomplishment!” – Megan Patiry, author of The Alice Effect.

“This book is a must read! It will expand your heart with a deeper understanding and compassion, not only for Saul, but for all precious wounded souls just trying to live, love and be whole.” – Cathy Trudeau, M.A., Clinical Counsellor.

“This book is a must-read-not only for those who live with or love someone with a mental illness, but also for clinicians, therapists, and anyone who believes in the strength of the human spirit. It is a beacon of hope that reminds us all: healing is possible, and no one is beyond the reach of transformation.” – Chimène Jewer, Psychologist and Past President, Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia.

“This book offers a fascinating account of the life experiences, thinking, and actions of Saúl Horwitz, during his life-long struggle with bi-polar disorder. The reader is able to enter into his world of hubristic magical thinking dominated by much darker periods of self-loathing and bleakness. The non-traditional A. A. group that eventually helps him to live his life in the service and love of others allows him to feel a part of something bigger than himself. With a new sense of purpose and belonging, he enters into a way of living that he finds to be full of miraculous moments of humanity and communion.” – Jack Martin, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology, Simon Fraser University.

“What sets this memoir apart is its unwavering sense of hope. Saúl brings his darkest moments into the light. The book is ultimately a celebration of healing, resilience and the power of community-based recovery. Without relying on medication, and through years of spiritual growth, group therapy and service to others, Saúl builds a life of self-awareness, humility, and balance.” – Eleana Rodriguez, MBA.

“Saúl holds nothing back as he takes us on an unforgettable journey through his life with bipolar disorder. Not only does Saúl invite us to revisit his most intimate moments, he does so with endearing honesty and hard-won insight. Every page more compelling and courageous than the last, it’s a story you can’t help but devour and root for.  Saúl’s truly extraordinary life and lessons are meant to be shared, discussed, and celebrated.  Improbable and Extraordinary is a must-read for anyone wanting to better understand—and embrace—life with mental illness.” – Tanya N. Miller, M.A., Mental Health Policy Specialist.
